Marinbastun is the only manufacturer in Sweden with CE-marked sauna boats. Our sauna boats meet the safety requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive and can be insured with a proper boat insurance – just like any other boat.

What does CE marking of a sauna boat mean?

CE marking is the EU's requirement that a product complies with applicable safety and environmental directives. For sauna boats and sauna rafts, the Recreational Craft Directive (2013/53/EU) applies, which sets requirements for construction, stability, and materials.
A sauna boat sold in Sweden or any other EU country must be CE marked. The manufacturer must be able to demonstrate that the product has undergone stability testing and that all documentation is correctly prepared. Marinbastun has undertaken this thorough work – and we are unique in this among Swedish manufacturers of sauna boats.
We are alone in the market – it's not because we are a specialist institution, it's because we have done the work required.
Why does CE marking matter to you as a buyer?
✓ You can insure your sauna boat or sauna raft
A CE-marked sauna boat from Marinbastun can often be insured with a proper boat insurance. This means protection against theft, fire, liability and damage – on the same terms as for other boats. In the Swedish market, our products are the only ones that give you this opportunity. Even our sauna rafts which are bought without a motor and propulsion and which are not CE-marked can often be insured thanks to the solid groundwork behind all our models.
✓ The sauna boat and sauna raft are safe and tested
CE marking requires stability testing. All Marinbastun's sauna boats and sauna rafts are based on the same stability-tested model programme, providing peace of mind on the water – whether for private use or commercial rental.
✓ Legal to resell at any time
A sauna raft without CE marking cannot be resold within five years without a costly post-construction assessment (PCA). If you buy a CE-marked sauna boat or sauna raft from us, you can sell it whenever you wish – without any obstacles.
✓ Particularly important for commercial use
Do you run a hotel, guesthouse, manor house, campsite or boat club with sauna raft hire? Then CE marking and insurance may be a requirement. Over the years, we have supplied many sauna boats to all of Europe where customers have successfully been able to insure their sauna boats
Marinbastun – the only manufacturer with CE-marked sauna boats in Sweden
We started Marinbastun in 2011 with the aim of building saunas boats and sauna rafts of the highest quality that can withstand Nordic conditions. The CE marking is the result of thorough work with all the requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive: construction, stability testing, and documentation.
No other sauna boat or sauna raft manufacturer in Sweden offers this. It's not because we're a specialist institution – it's because we've done the work required.

Sauna boat and sauna raft – CE marking with and without a motor

For a sauna boat to be sold as fully CE-marked, an engine and other options are required. A sauna raft without an engine is not CE-marked according to the Recreational Craft Directive, but can still often be insured through our branded insurance in Sweden. We can also provide tips on insurance companies abroad that have previously insured our products outside of Sweden.
Whether you choose a sauna boat or a sauna raft, with or without a motor, all of Marinbastun's products have undergone stability testing. As insurance is an important matter, we recommend that our customers, before placing an order, ensure that what they are purchasing is insurable for the use they intend.
Frequently asked questions about CE marking for sauna boats and sauna rafts
Does a sauna boat or sauna raft need to be CE marked?
No. Sauna boats sold in Sweden and the EU must be CE-marked according to the Recreational Craft Directive (2013/53/EU). Marinbastun is the only manufacturer in Sweden that meets this requirement and offers CE-marked products. For sauna rafts that will not be used as boats, there is no requirement for CE-marking.
Can one insure a sauna raft without CE marking?
In Sweden, Marinbastun's sauna boats and sauna rafts can usually be insured through the insurance company we cooperate with. If you are planning to acquire a sauna raft for another country, we have experience and can provide advice and tips on insurance companies.
What are the requirements for CE marking of sauna rafts and sauna boats?
The Recreational Craft Directive requires construction drawings, stability testing, and complete technical documentation. The manufacturer must demonstrate that all safety requirements are met. Marinbastun has carried this out for its entire range of sauna boats, and the same basic concept and model range are also available to purchase as non-CE marked sauna rafts.
Is a CE-marked sauna raft required for hotels and commercial rentals?
When renting commercially in hotels, stately homes, at campsites, or boat clubs, CE marking and insurance are especially important and may be a legal requirement. Marinbastun always recommends CE-marked products for commercial operators if these are to be used as boats.
What's the difference between a sauna boat and a sauna raft?
A sauna boat has an engine and is considered a vessel, whereas a sauna raft usually lacks an engine and is anchored. A sauna boat with an engine is fully CE-marked according to the Recreational Craft Directive.
